To kick off Kurts birthday week yesterday the two of us hopped in our car leaving the girls with my sister and parents for the day and checked the Ausable Chasm off our list of FUN adventures together. Ausable Chasm is a sandstone gorge and is nicknamed the Grand Canyon of the Adirondacks. The Ausable River runs through it and then empties into Lake Champlain. We learned yesterday the river is over two miles long and FREEZING this time of year. We wanted to tube but the water temps were still so low so we rafted after hiking. You can hike some of the most incredible scenic trails, float the mighty Ausable river with a guided tour guide, we got lucky to have Taylor he was FANTASTIC!! The caves of sandstone looked like millions of lego looking stones so perfectly stacked. It was a fantastic day trip if you are in the upstate area.
We stopped at Lake Placid on our way back for dinner and loved Smoke Signal and it did not disappoint. If you don’t know from all my insta stories I am BBQ obsessed!!! And was so excited to try there homemade Maple BBQ sauce on my rack of ribs. We also started with there most popular app the BBQ nachos with burnt ends and EVERYTHING was killer. We only had one drink each since we had another 90 minutes home but the New York Sour was our favorite between that and The Mule. Sipping our drinks while the sun was setting over Lake Placid was beyond gorgeous. We strolled the town trying to walk off the billion calories we ate at that one seating, grabbed the girls matching bear bum pj’s at a cute shop and headed south back home. We love road trips, we love adventures and we LOVE getting a little QT together. Hope you all had a great weekend and enjoyed reading a little about ours.
